Split face ledger panel 6 × 24

The 6 × 24 inch panel is the size North American installers ask for by name. Strips of split face stone are bonded into one staggered panel, so a wall goes up a panel at a time instead of a stone at a time, and the staggered ends lock into the next panel without a straight joint. One panel covers one square foot.

Installation

  • Fix to cement backer board, masonry or concrete with a polymer-modified thin-set mortar. Not to drywall on its own.
  • Start at the bottom and work up, staggering the vertical joints from row to row.
  • Back-butter each panel as well as combing the wall, for full contact.
  • Seal the stone after installation, especially outdoors and around fireplaces.

General practice, not an installation guide. Follow the mortar maker's instructions and the building code where the wall is.

Questions about this product

What is a split face ledger panel?

Natural stone split into strips, so the face is the rough surface of the break rather than a cut, then bonded into a single staggered panel. It gives the look of a dry-stacked stone wall and installs much faster than laying stones one by one.

How many panels do I need?

Divide the wall area in square feet by the panel's face: a 6 × 24 panel covers 1 sq ft, a 6 × 18 covers 0.75 and a 6 × 12 covers 0.5. Add 10 to 15 percent for cutting.

Can ledger panels go outdoors?

Yes, natural travertine and marble are used on exterior walls. In climates with freezing winters, seal the stone and install it over a substrate and with a mortar rated for exterior use.

What is the difference between travertine and marble panels?

Travertine has natural pores and warm beige, gold and silver tones. Marble is denser, with fewer pores, and gives the whites and greys. Both split well and both are quarried around Denizli.
