Denizli travertine colours: Classic, Ivory, Noce, Scabas, Silver and more

Updated

Denizli travertine is not one stone but a family of colours, from almost white to deep walnut and cool grey. Trade names vary from one supplier to the next, so here is what each of the common names usually means.

Classic and Light

Pale beige to ivory, with soft pores and faint banding. The most sold travertine in the world, sometimes called Roman, Light or Classic. It reads as a warm white on a wall and suits almost any interior.

Ivory

Lighter and creamier than Classic, with fewer markings. Chosen where a calm, bright surface is wanted, on pool decks, in bathrooms and on large walls.

Gold and Yellow

Honey to golden yellow, warm and lively. Popular for fireplaces and rustic or Mediterranean interiors, and for exterior walls that should look sun-warmed.

Noce (walnut)

Brown to walnut, with darker veins. The warmest of the travertines, used where a wall or floor should feel deep and traditional.

Scabas

A mix of grey, beige and gold with strong movement, every piece different. Good for split face and tumbled walls, where the variation is the point.

Philadelphia and Rustic

Mixed warm tones, from cream to rust and brown, that give a varied, natural wall. Used mostly in split face ledger panels and mosaics.

Silver

Cool grey with white and charcoal banding, the most contemporary of the travertines. Suits modern interiors, black steel, concrete and grey palettes, and is one of the most searched colours in the US.

Seeing the real colour

Travertine varies from block to block, so photographs and samples of your actual lot matter more than a name. Our colour pages show each colour as a single panel, as panels together and close up, and we send samples before an order is confirmed.
